I was freshly showered and had just left the gym and decided to come and knockout this trail. Mostly shaded and cool. I did it alone but other women may feel nervous about this trail. Unfortunately, the bike docks were mostly empty, so check the CaBi app before heading over.

I followed this path using the AllTrails map but it was a bit inaccurate towards the end. The trail has about 3 or 4 small playgrounds along the way. They have outdoor workout stations where you can do calisthenics and other types of exercises.

All of the dogs were on leashes and the owners moved to the sides allow my bike to pass. It also has a little splash pad for small kids. The bike path was paved and mostly flat with a few inclines that added a nice bit of variety. Marvin Gaye Park is a mile greenway and trail system in DC's Far Northeast, named after the legendary singer.

The dog walkers were very friendly and courteous.

I also loved that there were a few community vegetable gardens along the way. If you like, when you get back, you can visit the Marvin Gaye Recreation Center. I walked my bike down the stairs to continue the path to the end but ended up improvising and taking a slightly different route to get back.

If you feel comfortable in a city or urban setting like me then this is a short and sweet 4 mile ride. The trail was low-key empty except for a few people walking their dog. We loved seeing the nods to Marvin Gaye, including the very cute music-themed playground.

This is a great bike trail with convenient CaBi stations along the way!

We used Capitol Heights station bikes and rode them to the trailhead. Beautiful fall foliage Cool fitness stations Convenient city location to two metro stations. I enjoyed stopping at the signs to learn more about Black history.

All of this is within walking distance of the Capital Heights Metro Station. Stretching nearly two miles across Northeast Washington, the park occupies a stretch of green stream valley along Watts Branch—the largest tributary to the Anacostia River within the District of Columbia.
