RETROSPECTIVE: ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ : The second episode of Dead Boy Detectives is where the queer representation, simultaneously, is introduced and becomes problematic

DC Comics While Dead Boy Detectives has been branded a queer story, venturing into LGBTQIA+ territory (especially in the / comic revival), fans have wondered for a long time if the series' central characters shared any sort of romance with one another.

The exact year of his death is better left vague because of time wimeyness in comics. As “the brains ” of the Dead Boy Detectives agency, teenage ghost Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) is used to knowing all the answers. Well, you see, they murdered Edwin as a sacrifice in a Satanic ritual and then hid his body in an trunk in the attic.

They both shown a liking for cheap and ineffective disguises whether simple fake mustaches or dressing up as a musketeer or Sherlock Holmes. However, “Dead Boy Detectives” is first and foremost a show about loving your friends, and it’s through that lens that the writers most effectively queer the story.

Just how did they die and become detectives? Fantastical forays happen along the way to solving the puzzles and the series concludes with Crystal added to the sleuthing enterprise. The Dead Boy Detectives Agency is comprised of teens Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland who are indeed quite dead and decided to become detectives as they had much time on their hands.
